THe science of commitment

Why Back yourself

1 in 5 never make it to the start line.
Not because they couldn't.
Because nothing was at stake.
Back Yourself changes the equation 3 ways.
Rewards Motivate
Rewards are powerful motivation activating the brains reward system. Cross the finish line and your vault comes back with 50% on top. That Pay Day is on your mind every training session between now and race day.
Loss Aversion
People are twice as motivated to avoid losing something they have than to gain something they don't. Lock real money against your finish and your brain treats the goal as non-negotiable.
The Identity Shift
The moment you lock your vault, you stop being someone who registered for a race. You become someone who backed themselves to finish it. That shift shows up every day until race day.

You've signed up,
now Back Yourself.

How it works

Make race day
PAY DAY

01 - Lock your Vault
After registering, choose $50, $100 or $200. Pay via Stripe. Your funds sit securely with Stripe - not with us - until race day.
02 - Cross the line
Race day. Cross the finish line. Your official chip time confirms your completion. Nothing to submit. Nothing to chase.
03 - Collect your Pay Day
Confirmed finisher? Your vault comes back plus 50% on top - as race merch credit, next year's entry, or cash back. Or donate your entire Pay Day to charity. Your call.

Show up. Smash it. Get paid.

The stakes

skin in the game
That's the whole idea

If you don't make the start line, your vault goes entirely to your event's nominated charity. Not to us. Not ever. That's not a penalty. That's the point. It's the loss aversion that will motivate you to get out of bed at 5AM on a Monday morning. And if life genuinely gets in the way - a documented injury deferral from your organiser, or a cancelled event - you get a full refund.

No start. No Finish. No Pay Day.
But something epic still happens.

Straight Answers

No small print
No surprises

Who holds my money?
Stripe - the payment infrastructure behind Xero, Atlassian and Canva. PCI DSS Level 1 certified. Your money is held securely until your event completes and results.
What if my timing chip fails?
You have seven days after race day to send proof - a Strava file, a finish-line photo, other unique-to-you tracking data. We review within 24 hours and release your Pay Day immediately. A timing error will never cost you.
Can I withdraw before race day?
No. That is the point. The lock-in is what changes your behaviour. Official event cancellation or a documented injury deferral from your organiser earns a full vault refund. Everything else is forfeited to charity.
Is this gambling?
No. You control the outcome entirely - you're committing to your own action, not wagering on an uncertain external event. Forfeited vaults go to charity, not to us. Back Yourself is a Performance Reward Program under Australian law. Not a wagering product, not a deposit-taking facility, not a financial product.
